Rep. Schmaltz: State grant will help Ogma Brewing Co. expand in downtown Jackson
RELEASE|July 31, 2025

State Rep. Kathy Schmaltz today announced that Ogma Brewing Co. in downtown Jackson has been awarded a $25,000 state grant to expand its outdoor beer garden and create a more vibrant gathering space for the community.

The grant, awarded through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Match on Main program, will support Ogma Brewing Co.’s plans to install a permanent concrete stage, outdoor bar, additional seating, greenery, and fencing. These improvements aim to enhance the venue’s atmosphere and functionality, supporting local artists and making downtown Jackson an even more attractive destination for residents and visitors.

“Ogma Brewing Co. has become a place where people connect, celebrate, and support local talent,” said Schmaltz, R-Jackson. “These improvements will help them continue to grow and provide even more opportunities for community engagement in downtown Jackson. It’s a great example of how investing in local businesses strengthens the heart of our city.”

Ogma has already hosted more than 20 outdoor events over the past two summers. The new upgrades will position the business to double its event offerings and accommodate up to 100 guests. The expansion is projected to increase sales and generate new foot traffic and activity downtown.

Ogma Brewing Co. is one of 63 small businesses across Michigan to receive a grant in this round of Match on Main awards. In total, $1.49 million was distributed to support local business growth and downtown revitalization throughout the state.

The Match on Main program is designed to help place-based businesses launch or expand in core downtown areas and commercial districts. The funding provides up to $25,000 to support improvements that increase business resiliency and create more inviting downtown environments.
