State Rep. Timmy Beson has been selected to chair a House Appropriations Subcommittee dedicated to the state’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and the Department of Insurance and Financial Services. Beson will also serve on the House Appropriations Committee and multiple other Appropriations-centric subcommittees, giving Bay County residents a crucial voice as public dollars are being used during the budget process.
“I am honored to be named to this role,” said Beson, of Bay City. “The budget process is a critical part of our role as legislators. I am excited to get to work in a responsible way that respects taxpayers and ensures the very best return on their investments. This has been missing in a big way the last few years. We have seen massive amounts of taxpayer dollars used for corporate incentives, pet projects and other things that don’t put people first. Our approach needs to change.”
The House Appropriations Committee manages the annual state budget and supplemental state spending. The committee also reviews legislation that impacts budget implementation and public policies with significant financial implications. Beson brings experience to this role, having served on the committee each of the past two terms.
Beson will also serve on House Appropriations subcommittees on Corrections and Judiciary; Human Services; and School Aid and the Department of Education.
Beson represents the 96th House District, which includes the cities of Bay City and Essexville and the townships of Bangor, Beaver, Frankenlust, Fraser, Garfield, Hampton, Kawkawlin, Merritt, Monitor, and Portsmouth.
