State Rep. Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) today rose on the House Floor to recognize the week of June 8 through 14 as National Flag Week in Michigan.

“Over the years, the American flag has flown during both tough times and great victories,” said Wozniak.  “It’s been a sign of strength, courage, and unity for generations of Americans here at home and around the world.”

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress approved the first official flag of the United States. The U.S. celebrates Flag Day on June 14 each year to honor the adoption of the flag.

“National Flag Week gives us a moment to honor not just the flag, but all the people who defend and serve our country—our veterans, service members, public servants, and everyday citizens who live out the values our flag represents,” said Wozniak. “Let’s use this week as a chance to teach our kids, connect with our communities, and show our pride in being American.”
